Artwork & Designer Help
Everything you need to get your logo print-ready — whether it came from a designer, Canva, or an AI. Plain English, no jargon.
The Short Version
What Makes a Perfect File
FormatPNG is best. JPG works (we can remove the white box). SVG welcome.
BackgroundTransparent, so your logo sits straight on the fabric.
SizeAt least 1,500 pixels wide — bigger is always better. Never screenshot a logo.
ColourBright, solid colours print beautifully in DTF. Full colour costs nothing extra.
Not sure your file measures up? Upload it anyway — the designer checks the resolution against your chosen print size automatically and warns you before you order if it would print soft or blurry. You will never accidentally order a fuzzy print.
Using the Designer
Design It in Three Minutes
- Pick your garment — t-shirts, hoodies, workwear, caps, embroidered beanies, bags — and choose a colour.
- Upload your logo(s) — add as many as you like to your artwork library: company logo, accreditation badge, sponsor. Each print keeps its own image.
- Tap "Place on Garment" — or drag it on. Move it anywhere, resize with the corner handle or the Bigger/Smaller buttons, rotate, flip, or type an exact width in centimetres.
- No logo? Use Add Text — type your slogan, pick from 11 fonts, choose colours and an outline. Perfect for team names and events.
- Position pricing is automatic — the highlighted areas are pricing guides, not barriers. Wherever you leave a print, the live price updates. Left breast, full back, sleeve — put it where you want it.
- Made a mistake? Undo and Redo buttons (or Ctrl+Z), a drag-to-bin delete, and a Copy to Back button that mirrors your front design onto the back in one tap.
💡 The price is always live. Every logo you add, resize or move updates the total instantly — including quantity discounts at 5+ and 10+. No surprises at checkout.
The White Box Problem
Background Removal, Explained
JPG files can't have transparent backgrounds — so a JPG logo always arrives sitting in a solid white box. Printed as-is, that white box prints too. On a white tee you might get away with it; on anything else it looks like a sticker.
Two fixes, both easy:
- Best: upload a transparent PNG in the first place — see the export guides below.
- Or click "🪄 Remove Background — £1.50" in the designer. It intelligently erases the white surrounding your logo while keeping any white inside the design (white text on a badge survives untouched). Every copy you've already placed on the garment updates instantly, and you carry on designing.
⚠️ The remover is built for solid white or light backgrounds — the classic "logo on white JPG". Photos of a logo on a desk, gradients or busy backgrounds need a clean export from the source instead — the guides below show you how.
Made It in Canva?
Exporting From Canva — Step by Step
- Open your design and click Share (top right) → Download.
- File type: choose PNG.
- Size: drag the size slider up — aim for at least 1,500 px on the longest side (2,000+ for big back prints).
- Tick "Transparent background" if you have Canva Pro — this is the magic checkbox.
- No Pro? No problem — download the normal PNG (white background) and use our £1.50 background remover in the designer.
- Download, then upload the file straight into our designer.
💡 In Canva, delete any background colour or frame from the design itself before exporting — the transparent checkbox only removes the page background, not shapes you've drawn.
Adobe Express
Download → PNG → toggle "Transparent background" (free accounts have it!). Same size advice: 1,500 px minimum.
Photoshop / Illustrator / Affinity
Export As → PNG with transparency, or send us the original file — we handle PSD, AI, EPS, SVG and PDF. If in doubt, email it to hello@mycustomlook.com and we'll prep it for you.
Procreate / iPad apps
Hide the background layer (untick the checkbox on the Background layer), then Share → PNG. That exports transparent automatically.
Using AI? Smart.
Getting a Print-Ready Logo From AI
ChatGPT, Copilot, Midjourney, Canva's AI — they all make cracking logos if you ask properly. The trick is telling the AI the output requirements up front. Copy and paste this onto the end of your logo request:
Copy & paste this into your AI
Output requirements: PNG format with a fully transparent background (no white box, no background colour, no frame). At least 2000 × 2000 pixels. Sharp, clean edges. Solid bold colours — no faint gradients or tiny fine details, as this will be printed on clothing. No watermark, no mockup, no t-shirt preview — just the logo artwork itself on transparency.
- Check the corners: open the downloaded file — if you see a chequerboard pattern behind the logo, it's transparent. Solid white? Use our £1.50 remover.
- Say no to mockups: AIs love showing your logo already on a t-shirt. That's a picture of a shirt, not artwork — ask for "the logo artwork only".
- Bigger is better: if the AI offers sizes or "HD/upscale", always take the largest.
For the Detail People
Full Technical Specs
- Accepted files: PNG, JPG, SVG (designer) — plus PSD, AI, EPS, PDF by email
- Resolution: 300 DPI at print size is the gold standard. Rough guide: 10 cm print → 1,200 px wide; 25 cm print → 3,000 px. The designer's live quality check does this maths for you.
- Colour: RGB or CMYK both fine — DTF is full colour at no extra cost, including gradients and photos
- Fine detail: keep lines and text above ~1.5 mm at final print size
- DTF gang sheets: 600 mm usable width — full specs on the DTF page
- Embroidery (beanies): we digitise your logo into a stitch file (one-off £15 setup, waived on repeat orders) — simple bold logos embroider best
